Q: What's your name?
A: Timothy Bruce Quirk. For some reason, people sometimes assume my last name’s made up, but I come from a long line of Quirks. There are more of us than you might think.
Q: Where are you from and where do you live now?
A: I was born in a suburb of New York City, but have lived in California on and off since I was 18, and moved here permanently in 1997. I’ve lived in the same house in Oakland (across the bay from San Francisco) ever since then.
Q: What's your role at Zedge? What do you do most days at work?
A: My title is Senior Vice President, Product, which basically means I’m in charge of our product strategy and roadmap. I manage a large team of Product Managers, Designers and Content Managers.
Q: How long ago did you join Zedge?
A: I joined Zedge toward the end of 2017, when it acquired a startup I’d founded named Freeform Development. Before that I helped build Google Play, and before THAT I helped build Rhapsody, one of the first on-demand digital music services.
Q: What do you do when you're not working?
A: I’m either listening to music, making my own music (I front a pop-punk band called Too Much Joy, and also have a side project called Wonderlick), watching movies, or walking my dog, Strummer.
Q: What's your favorite thing about Zedge?
A: We help people make a living making art. That’s what makes me happy to wake up at 5 or 6 in the morning (since most everyone I work with is 10 hours ahead of me in Central Europe).
Q: What drives you crazy about your job?
A: Choosing what NOT to do. There are always more things you want to do than time and money and people to accomplish them with. This was true even at Google.
Q: What advice do you have for Zedge Premium artists?
A: Make the art that pleases YOU, rather than chasing trends. If it’s original, and honest, it will find an audience.
