Q: Who are you and where are you from?
A: I’m Gilon Miller. I live in Tel Aviv, Israel but I was born in Cape Town, South Africa and grew up in Boston, Massachusetts.
Q: Tell us a little bit about your career path: how did you get from where you started to Zedge?
A: I started off my career as an electrical engineer, with a specialty in signal processing and later I got into robotics. Throughout the years, I transitioned to the business side and spent many years in marketing and building startups. Over ten years ago, I founded GuruShots as a way to provide people who enjoyed taking photos a fun and engaging place to share their images and receieve feedback. Zedge acquired GuruShots in 2022 and we became part of the Zedge team.
Q: What is your role at Zedge?
A: I am the CEO of GuruShots.
Q: Impressive title! What does that mean, though? What's an average work day look like?
A: I oversee all activities related to GuruShots. My typical day is dynamic and multifaceted, starting with a morning review of the latest user engagement metrics and key performance indicators. This data-driven start helps prioritize which product and marketing issues need to be addressed most urgently. Meetings with the core teams follow, from Operations to Product to Marketing to Finance; these meetings involve discussion of ongoing features and marketing campaigns, as well as ones that are in the pipeline.
Q: What's your favorite thing about working at Zedge?
A: With teams in the US, Lithuania, Norway and Israel, I enjoy the mix of cultures that provides a diverse and interesting experience.
Q: What's your least favorite thing about working at Zedge?
A: I can’t name a least favorite thing but since Zedge has around one hundred employees sitting in different locations around the world, I have not met many of them. It would be great to meet more of the team face to face.
Q: What do you do for fun outside of work?
A: I enjoy reading, mainly biographies and business related books, working out, traveling and spending time with my wife and kids.
